Health & Safety
The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 is the main statutory instrument regulating construction work and this applies to our onshore and offshore work. Further maritime legislation from the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) also applies to our marine operations.
MeyGen has provided its contractors with Pre-Construction Information and Health and Safety Plan for the project, to allow them to safely manage the onshore and offshore works.
Our onshore Principal Contractor (ABB) and our offshore Principal Contractor (James Fisher Marine Services) have prepared Construction Phase Health and Safety Plans. These are based on the information supplied by MeyGen and set out the management and arrangements for the worksites.
Successful management of the site Health and Safety performance is ensured by regular auditing of the contractors to these Construction Phase Health and Safety Plans and swift closure of any non-compliances to drive continual improvement.
MeyGen has secured consent for Phase 1 (86MW) of the Inner Sound lease site. The following primary consents have been granted for the project:
- Section 36 of The Electricity Act 1989
- Section 25 of the Marine (Scotland) Act 2010
- Planning Permission under Section 28 of the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997
Both principal contractors (ABB and James Fisher Marine Services) apply ISO 14001 accredited Environmental Management Systems to all their operations.
